"The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has storms, it has tides and in its depths, it has its pearls too."   -Vincent Van Gogh

It has always been a distant dream of Stuart's to one day own and operate a vessel that would allow him the freedom to confidently venture out into waters rich with experiences. This dream came true after relocating to Port Townsend, Wa., from Lake Tahoe, Ca.   It was the perfect time to look for a vessel suitable to ply the waters of Puget Sound with the ability to stay overnights on her while exploring the area's many treasures.  Suzanne LoCoco and Stuart Johnson are locals here in Port Townsend, Washington. Together, we purchased this boat for two reasons: Stu's strong desire to be out on the water and to explore as much as possible, and Suzanne's love of meeting new and interesting people.  Having grown up in the restaurant business, Suzanne is a natural host and has owned and operated several Sicilian-style restaurants over the course of 35+ years. Stuart started sailing at the age of 12 near Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and has owned and operated both sailing and power boats. His last two boats were Chris Craft Launch 25s, which he operated out of Lake Tahoe, California for several years. After settling permanently in Port Townsend in 2021, Stuart earned his Master's License from the US Coast Guard in Tacoma Washington. Since then, he put a lot of thought into what kind of boat would provide a wonderful experience out on the Puget Sound and finally settled on the modern classic 38-foot 'Avalon', a Downeast-style boat from Palm Beach Motor Yachts founded by famed Australian racing legend Mark Richards.  These boats were built in Australia on a strong fiberglass-composite lightweight hull and designed to gently cut through the chop and be remarkably stable like a much larger yacht. Purrrfect reflects bygone days when interiors were lavishly embellished with fine woods, such as the beautiful Burmese teak found throughout our boat. Before operating on Puget Sound, Stuart decided to completely upgrade this yacht. Some of the upgrades are a 2022 Yanmar 6LY 440 CR Tier 3 Diesel engine, Dual Racor 1000 Water Separator System, diesel cabin heater, sound-proofing, New Hoses &Thru-Hull fittings, LED lighting, wastewater system, 250' All-Chain Anchor Rode & New Anchor Gypsy, two AGM starting batteries, Garmin 8612 Chartplotter system in addition to the existing Raymarine 12" Chartplotter & Radar system, two VHF radios, and a Cell-Phone / Wi-Fi Booster system. Finally, the boat's transom was completely refurbished and the vessel was renamed 'Purrrfect'.
